Default Help! Sewing machine issue

My sewing machine keeps eating my HST's when I start sewing on them. What am I doing wrong?

This happens a lot especially with the wide hole plate for zig zag stitches. If you can get a single needle hole plate it would probably stop the eating of the fabric. Also using a leader fabric will stop it. Another way is start sewing with fabric ends out of the back of the foot and reverse stitch then stitch normal.

Onebyone said it all. That's how I work around that problem.

Also try using a leader (small scrap of fabric) to start on before your HST.

I always use leaders and enders when I am piecing.

Also, make sure you have a fresh needle. Every quilt deserves a new needle.

Do needle down theñ pull up the bobbin thread to the top of your fabric, before you sew. The leaders work well as meñtioned.

And, once you pull that bobbin thread up, hold both threads and pull slightly as you start to sew.

Chain piece as much as possible.
