    Me Again.

Still trying to fiqure out this Raggady Ann block without havin to buy more fabric.

I know have 10 1/2 panels, which will result in a 10" finished block.
I'm planning on using a 4 patch and a square to make the alernate block.

Pattern orginaly called for 2 1/2 strips for the 4 patch, 4 1/2 strips for the block. How much do I need to trim these down to end up with a 10 inch finished blocked?

OK, your alternate block will be a fourpatch made with two solids and two small four patches, right? if so, the finished size of the small fourpatch is 5 inches. to make a fourpatch that finishes at 5 inches you need to start with strips (or squares) that measure 3 inches when cut...that dimension reduces to 2.5 inches after seams are finished....the solid square in the smaller fourpatch would be cut at 5.5 and finish at 5. Does that make sense?

    It does.
But here is where I'm at.
The blocks in the pattern where suppose to be 12 1/2.
I cut the large block to small. 10 1/2 .
The orginal strips where cut 2 1/2 inches with a 4 1/2 sold.
They where sewn 3 across, 3 down to make a 12 inch finished block.
I need to redo the strips and the 4 1/2 to make a finished block of 10 inches.
Trying not to buy any more fabric.

OK, so you are making a 9patch as the alternate block instead of a four patch, right? Sorry to say, that will be almost impossible to measure accurately, since 10 inches (finished) will not divide evenly by 3..it comes out to 3.33 inches, for which there is no measurement on traditional quilting rulers. It would be even harder to subdivide that 3.33 inches to get a smaller multipatch square. I'd change the pattern and instead of making a 9patch, make a fourpatch as I described in my origonal message. hard to know what pattern you're working on without a picture can you send one, or a link to a picture?

The off-set block has these items:
    1- 4 patch, 1- 41/2 inch, and 1- 4pach
The 4 patch in the orginal pattern was cut: 2 1/2 strips for 4 patch. 4 1/2 solid block.

I need to see a pattern - do you have a link? in your message below you list three blocks...did you mean to say that there were two solid blocks..the 4 1/2 inch ones? with two of the four patches? or did you mean that the alternate was a ninepatch and one row of that block had the two fourpatches and one solid block?

Based on the original block being 12 inches finished, the 2 1/2 inch strips would finish to 2 inches and make a nice four patch that is 4 inches square...that would fit nicely with the 4 1/2 cut solid and with other blocks of the same size would make a ninepatch that finishes at 12 inches.

since no one else has gotten involved in this discussion, we could continue it thru PMs if you want.
