Default Help with signature wedding quilt please...

I am going to have my guest sign pre cut quilt squares for my wedding quilt. The problem is that I have tried to iron the square to freezer paper and wax paper but they wont stick.. Any suggestions on a backing so that my guest can sign them easier?? Wedding is June 2. Thanks

Put a piece of sand paper on the cardboard and that will help for signatures. It can be an 8 1/2 by 11 piece of cardboard or bigger if your squares are bigger.

You could also use a light weight iron on stabilizer, this would give a little less stretch to the fabric when guests are signing.

Are you using 100% cotton fabric? I use a hot dry cotton iron setting & have never had a problem with the white freezer paper sticking.

I never had a problem sticking freezer paper to fabric either until I took a class and bought the cheapest black fabric Wal-Mart had. We don't have a quilt store and it was the only choice without driving 120 miles. Freezer paper absolutely would not stick to that fabric.

You might try a different white fabric.

Is your fabric prewashed? Sometimes I can't get freezer paper to stick to fabric because of the chemicals on the fabric. I would wash but don't use any fabric softener.

Don't forget to draw 1/4" line all around so they don't sign on the edge...although I did that and some still went over. I used freezer paper without a problem...hmm

Are you using Reynolds freezer paper? I have never had a problem sticking the waxy side of it to fabric.

When I did this, I ironed the freezer paper onto the back of the yardage before cutting squares. Much easier than cutting squares first.

Instead of just drawing lines 1/4" from the edge (to keep people from extending their signatures into the seamline), I would experiment with adding blue painter's tape along the edges -- maybe the inch-wide version. This would likely keep extravagant signatures within the lines!
