It's hard. My kids and hubby can make such a mess without realizing, and their idea of cleaning isn't mine. My hubby does clean, usually by pouring full strength bleach all over. In my husband's culture, women cook, clean, and entertain as top priorities. I have to just let it go. When the kids grow up, the house will be very clean again.

Everybody's got dust! Friends forgive a little clutter! Keep working on it regularly! The house always needs a little attention! Never ever have I had a perfect house! (maybe I need a housekeeper?) :-)

we are both retired. but i sew and he/i are working on a spare house for kicks i guess. stupidity might be a better word. have a DGS 2 days a week also. a housekeeper once a month for 4 hrs. she cleans like a tornado. i luv her. and i try to do something everyday, besides cooking and dishes.

I try to do a bit each day and then quilt. I am getting faster at putting things in their place and doing a bathroom. The kitchen is the hardest room to keep neat....someone is always eating something......

Well the housekeeper thing has me flummoxed. What happens when after she/he leaves, the kitchen floor is a mess again? I know no cooking is an option, but even a frozen dinner can splatter. I would love someone to come in every day, after I leave, to straighten up, wipe counters and wipe bathrooms. In general, I can manage it myself, since our large hairy dog went to doggie heaven.

I have several answers to this question. I have a trivet that says "My house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy". When it crosses that line, I try to clean. I have also heard it said that nobody goes to a funeral and says "She was a great housekeeper, but they might say she made beaustiful quilts" Several years ago I bought a book titled "Nobody said you had to eat off the floor". Her premise was you won't get it all done. No matter what you do somebody else (probably with OCD) will see something else to be done. Soooo, I do what I can and listen when my sewing machine calls.
