You all have such good ideas. Since a housekeeper is out of the question (live in the country), I think I will divide my house into sections and do like 2 rooms a day. Setting a timer is a great idea which will make me speed up my chores so I can get to quilting. Thanks you all so much. I like the slogan "my house is clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy". That will be my philosophy (spelling?) from now on!!

I like the idea of a timer...set it for 5 minutes, get all my housework done, then am free for the rest of the day!!! Yay!!! That is....if I lived in a cardboard box!!! LOL

Do check out www.flylady.net - you will be surprised at how well it works. An hour one day per week and a couple of 15 minutes per day and you are good to go. She has a system that you can adapt to fit your circumstances.

I'm new to quilting but it helps me not get so stiff and tired to get away from it and do a bit of cleaning and come back with fresh eyes and hands. The quilting helps me sing through the housework. And there is no stress. If I'm tired of cleaning I always go back to my quilting. I wish I had found quilting years ago....

Hey, I always thought that dust from quilting fabrics was compulsory. Someone told me it was filling from the cotton material. Ha Ha. AND - I have believed "that" alllllllll this time.
Is someone trying to tell me - "That this is not true". Damn- I always believed that it was a pre-requisite when quilting.
Surely, so many people can't be wrong. He He Ha Ha

I tried ignoring the housework, but had to admit that I function better in reasonably clean and orderly surroundings (only reasonably - no perfection here!). So I've worked out a daily routine based on Flylady's principles that keeps things looking OK and is also gradually dealing with the backlog of cleaning and clutter. I do that in the mornings, and the rest of the day is mine. But I'm lucky, as I've recently retired. When I was working fulltime it was really difficult - that's when the backlogs built up. I used to try to make sure I got at least 30 mins sewing in each day, and more at the weekends.

My grandmother taught me (and she was a very, very smart woman) that it's "just as easy to pick up three weeks of dust as it is two". I don't obsess --- my house is not dirty (no dishes in the sink, spilled food, icky bathroom), but it is cluttered a bit, and could probably benefit from a good dusting and vacuuming. There's always tomorrow for that. Today is for quilting!!

I do want they call, cleaning ladies. They come every 2 weeks, dust clean and do bathrooms and floor, vaccunm and it is good enough. And the price is reasonable. I am Blessed that my hubby said a few years ago said that is enough , you have cleaned, cooked, raised 6 kids and I was never at any time of day or night been ashamed to bring someone into our home. We are both retired. And spend all our time together playing.

I am by myself, hardly any visitors, but I can't stand things not getting done, I do find the time to clean one room a day I live in a mobile home,2 baths 3 bedrooms living room, 2 hallways, laundry room. one of the bedrooms is my computer room, the front room is my sewing room which these two do need work.
the master bedroom, clothes that need putting away, the floor swept, things I havent worn for a year needs to be gathered for thrift store OR stach room, the lr & Kitchen are fine, probably needs a touch up here and there. when I do get things out, I try to put them back where they belong,
and still have time for quilting and crocheting and reading a book or whatever.
