get your post into the unread topics? I start a topic and it stays and dies in My Topics. Sometimes I get a post and most of the times my questions are never answered. I keep seeing the same names in Unread Topics all the time so I wondered if there was a secret to getting there. TIA patti

Your topic is in Unread Topics. It just doesn't show up in yours because you wrote it.

Here's a theory (related to not getting any answers/responses to your posts).

There are a lot - hundreds - of new topics posted on the board every day.
Most folks can't read every thread.
So they make a choice based on the thread title.

And titles like these:

Has anyone...
It would sure help us if...
How many...
How do you all...

are particularly unhelpful in identifying the content of the thread.
And so are passed over.

Of course, that's only one theory.
I'm sure there are others.

I agree with MTS usually I tend to skip the vague titled threads, unless there are not many new threads.

I prefer a thread title that gives me an idea of the content of the thread.

I like the forum style where you can mouse over a thread title and it pops up a little preview of what is in the first post. This forum doesn't seem to have that.

Your own topic would not show up in your Unread Topics. Unless you signed out and came on as a guest then you might see your topic in Unread.

CrabbyPatty ....... Prime example ... the title of this thread!

Although I did stalk you and it seems your threads are getting posts to them. You can't expect all threads to get a gazillion posts to them.

Unread topics are just that. Something that YOU haven't read. When you create a topic, it's marked as read because they figure you read it when you typed it. It appears unread to the rest of us, because we haven't read it yet. To see responses, o to your profile and look at your list of Topics created.
I also agree with the comments on using a descriptive title. Some days I have time to read everything, but usually, I have to just pick and choose.

I pick and choose also, so the title has to grab my attention.

I don't think it just the title though 'cause sometimes I don't know the answer so I won't say anything, or I have nothing to say about it especially if someone says something like I made supper tonight then quilted for the rest of the evening.

I don't think it's humanly possible for most to look at or answer all topics. I pick what interests me or if I can offer advice that hasn't already been given. I don't like to post a reply if I have nothing new to add especially when someone is looking for help.
