ok guys, I need opinions. I have a friend at work who is going through a really really bad divorce, and she is expecting a baby. It is gonna be a boy, and I know I need to make her a baby quilt. I am getting 2 weeks off of school, which means I will have time between now and April 15. I need suggestions on patterns. I have always wanted to do a Log Cabin. My other thought would be a pioneer braid. What do y'all think? The point is to use patterns I have never done before to increase my skill. Thanks ahead of time!

I think either one would be great. What a nice thing to do for your friend!

How about an I Spy Quilt, windmill or Kaliedescope. Those all make great baby quilts and use some cute fabric that the bay can grow with such as dogs, cars or such. JoAmm's will have their books on sale for 40 percent of starting on the 4th, The other day i saw some books with real cute quiltsfor babies,

Love your ideas! Something I plan to do soon (I just got the fabric) is this quilt: http://tinyurl.com/2mb444 using the centers of the quarters (3 1/2" squares) for the I-Spy. Found some cute fabric at JoAnns today that's on sale. I think I'm doing 9 squares (3x3).

That is such a sweet and thoughtful thing of you to do for her. I'm sure whatever you decide she will treasure it.

One of my favorite patterns for a baby quilt is Warm Wishes. It's easy and goes together quickly. Here's a link to the pattern. http://quiltmaker.com/patterns/patt4/

And here's one I made for a friend's grandson who loves cars.
