I sort them by color and put them in clear boxes. They look kinda pretty on the shelf!

Minbe are very organised. They are crammed into carrier bags and make a humungus mess all over the floor when I am looking for a scrap, before being crammed back in. It is a great method!

I've just started a system, so I don't know yet whether it will work. I have a couple of books on scrap quilts 'cause they're my favorites.

If the piece is about the size/shape of a fat quarter, I keep it intact for large blocks and keep these pieces separated by lights and darks.

Smaller scraps I cut into the sizes I would most commonly use: 2.5" strips; 2.5" squares; and bricks that are usually 3.5" by 5". Each of these are sorted by lights and darks.

I'm learning that the most successful scrappy quilts depend on value rather than color, which is why I keep them just by light and dark. As I use them, I can sort again into medium-light and medium-dark. Anyway, that's my current new system!

My 'scraps' are jammed into 2 large dresser drawers...:(

Bonnie Hunter says - find a quilt you want to make and start cutting and saving that size square/strip/piece. Before you know it you'll have lots of scraps to make it a scrappy quilt.

I have too much always going on to devote hours to cutting up scraps - the day may come - but for right now they're out of sight in 2 drawers :)

It seems to me to be harder to put a scrap quilt together than a planned one.
ewwww...Right now I have a few plastic totes (small) the rest are in some canvas totes..

How do I organize my scraps ? Well, for me it is pretty easy. I use see thru bins (not to lg of ones). I keep my fabric up on on a shelf in my closet: darks, lights, prints, novelty, and patriotic stuff. At end of each bin inside, I have a 4 by 6" index card with what it is. For my really 'true' scraps, I organize and cut them into 6.5", 6", 5", 4.5", 3.5", 2.5", & 2" sqs. I usually take 1 day every other week and do this. I sew everyday, and lately have started pressing only on Thursdays, (becuz I hate pressing). I also have cut 2.5 inch strips also. I sort of got the idea from, the quilter, Bonnie Hunter. I met and have one of her books called "Leaders and Headers". It is a great book and it helped me alot

I use clear shoe boxes and save by size: 5", 4", 3", 2.5" and a bin for strips either 2.5", 2" or 1.5". Colors are all mixed up unless I have a lot of something like the 5" charm squares and then I break them down into colors.
