Default Need Help duplicating barn quilt

My brother made a barn quilt for my sister-in-law. I'd like to convert it to a block pattern to make a table topper or wall hanging. I have no idea how to do so.....would any of you experts out there be able to enlighten me? Hopefully, I attached the picture :-)

It would be fairly easy to draft that into a 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27 inch block -

I like it - it would make a great table topper or wall hanging.

Now I am a bit 'stuck' on how to ask the next questions - but here goes -

Do you need extremely detailed directions/instructions - or are you okay with "shorthand" - such as 9-patch corners -
it gets tricky for what to call the center side units - they are called so many different things - and the center unit can be constructed more than one way.

You've been a member of The Quilting Board since 2011, so it looks like you've been interested in quilting for a while.

because it is a 9 patch within a 9 patch, to get easy cutting sizes, i chose to go to 27".

Have you asked your brother where he got the pattern for the wooden quilt he made? I would start there.

Very pretty barn quilt, I can see why you'd like to draft it as a block.

Wonderful... Then would add 1/4 inch seam allowance on each block?

QuiltnNan your cutting grid and colored block are awesome (I wish I had a computer program that did that!), but the center square on the left side is colored incorrectly. I've done a cut and paste version in case someone was following this pattern and couldn't figure out why the outcome didn't look right.

Wow, that quilt block is great! I've had fun looking for them in North Carolina while we are driving up from FL to ME. My husband even points out places where he thinks there should be some around here. Coming out of Asheville, we got lost once in a small town, and they were everywhere, on businesses as well as barns and garages. The quilt blocks and the scenery were the best part of getting lost, listening to the driver's frustration, not so much.
