I store them in alpha order and use Microsoft Excel for my spreadsheet. I have a field for technique -- paper-pieced, applique, etc. Also designer. I can sort on those fields. I use a file drawer so that they are easy to just browse.

Wow, that's very organized - are you an accountant?
No. Just love knowing where things are and being able to do it so easily with a computer.
Beats the old card catalog system.

I use manila folders and a cardboard file box. After years of looking for patterns, this has worked great. I have no problem finding any of them. I do have 2 miscellaneous folders, just write on the the front of the folder. I did have a 3 ring binder, but I have too many patterns. I even put them back in the folder when I'm done.......lol Donna

Except for the computer spreadsheet idea, I've used all of the above ideas over th past 28 yrs.
That makes me about 90% efficient. The other 10% I allow myself for the fun of surprise discoveries!

I use the plastic sleeves from the $$$$ store and 3 ring binders that I pick up at garage sales. Different binders for different styles. My current projects or wanna dos go in a folder and kept by my sewing table.

I also do this....works very well for me.

Ditto, I use the 5x8 and the reg binders and label mine on the spine also. I work at Staples so I always stock up when things go on clearance.

I have a cute box. They are sorted alphabetically by type. i.e. purse patterns, doll patterns, wall hangings and full-size quilts.

Patterns, project ideas, etc., etc., are in a couple of three ring binders in clear plastic sheets that you fill from the top and when I'm looking for something new to work on all have to do is thumb through the pages.
