I think I read somewhere here something about vinegar in the rinse is that for color running?
I usually don't prewash but the more I get into it I think it is wise. My fabric is all price ranges so I don't want my quilts to come out the size of handkerchiefs when washed :roll:
My current project is red and white so any hints?

Read that thread and see what you think. I haven't tried it myself, but I always prewash. In case bleeding is an issue or shrinkage, I catch it before my innocent victim I gave it to finds the problem.

Ruthie, if you haven't already sewn everything together, PREWASH! I no longer trust red in any way shape or form. It loves to betray us and turn everything a lovely shade of pink when we least expect it! If anybody can give us the perfect solution to colorfasting red, I'll be forever grateful.

Ok I have asked and I'm washing in salt rinsing in vinegar. then when I wash the whole thing I'll get a bleed sheet for the dryer. .. Wish me luck.........and thank you :D

I use Retayne that I buy at my local quilt store to set the dye. I like to sew with batiks and when I tried setting the dye with saltwater I had to do it over and over again.

I rinsed 4 times . the last 2 with vinegar........either it works well .or the excess is gone. If it ever bleeds pink and red is prettyLOL

I do only use good quality fabrics for quilting, but I nearly everything I quilt is in various shades of red and creams, and I never pre-wash. When I'm finished with my quilt, I toss it in the washer on regular cycle, warm water, with one of those color catcher sheets from Bounce. They work great, everytime!
