I'm brain dead today. I'm going to order fabric to make an apron. The pattern calls for (2) pieces of fabric, both 22" x 25". The fabric is 44". Do I need two yards?

You "need" 25" since you should be able to get two 22" pieces across the wof.

But I would buy twice that just in case you can't get two across (if the selvages are wider than usual etc); you can always use the extra for a matching chef's hat or potholders.

Well, you could probably get by with one yard if you cut it carefully - but two yards is a safe bet.
