Would you charge to put together a full sz quilt made out of baby clothes? The pattern she is asking for is very basic all squares of different sizes. She will be providing me with the clothes and backing. I will have to purchase the batting and charge her for it. I will be piecing it together and quilting it. Then shipping it back to her.

Find out what the minimum wage per hour is in your area then charge 2 times that amount.
Of course you should charge her for the threads, the batting and shipping too.

Quilts from kids clothes are a great keepsake, and the fabric is, well, cheap. Saves you some money. HOWEVER!!! cutting up each article and turning it into a square is A LOT of work. A lot more ironing and getting things square. YOu need to take that into consideration when pricing her. You will spend more time on cutting and pieceing this then you will cutting from new fabric.

Does this customer know anything about sewing? She may be expecting you to sew terry cloth to stretch knit to cotton. Kids clothes are made out of many, many fabrics. I'd charge more if I had to work with fabrics that are a pain.
