I let myself quilt as long as I want to on week day evenings (1-3 hours) as long as I have exercised for at least 45 min that day. I sit at my job all day and I know I can't sit all evening too even if I'm quilting!

I used to set and quilt and push myself until I would burn out. Now I quilt when I feel like it and take all the time I want to. I make fewer mistakes and enjoy the process more. I don't quilt every day sometimes I go a week or more without sewing at all. Then I get going again and feel refreshed and ready to get going again.

I, too, am a many-projects-at-once person! Right now I'm concentrating on completing a throw for my MIL that I "gave" to her for Christmas but which wasn't finished. Therefore, I'm really working on only one project until it's finished. However, I have fabrics gathered for several other quilts and ideas in my head for at least a dozen more! Having read this thread I can tell you that you are not alone in your situation! As others have said, there are no rigid rules and no one right way. Go at your own pace, work on however many projects you want to do, relax, and ENJOY!

I sometimes can spend 4-6 hours a day "quilting" - which involves picking out fabrics for a project, preparing that fabric, cutting, sewing, piecing, quilting, etc. There are other days when I can only sew/quilt for an hour or two, depending upon my back and whether or not my carpal tunnel decides to make my life painful. Although I have been known to work on quilt projects for 15-30 minutes before work, another 30-60 hrs. after work and anywhere in between - it just all depends on whether or not I have a deadline to meet. Now that we're both retired, I had hoped to be able to spend more time quilting, however, that hasn't really happened; especially since my DH can no longer drive, plus I don't get up as early as I used to, so my time is limited on some days.

It depends on my mood. It can be hours or 20 minutes. I have heard advice that even if you can only get in 10 minutes, it's good. I also look at what project needs to be done or just tells me it wants to be finished, so I can work on a couple different ones or just one in a day.

You do what feels right to you, not what your friend's mom says.

Don't let anyone make you feel guilty as to how you quilt or arrange your time. There is always someone who will criticize the way you do something because it is not how they work. Do it to suit yourself and enjoy the process.

No rules in quilting, do whatever pleases you.
I prefer to finish one quilt at a time. Easier for me to store finished quilts than unfinished quilts.
I sew everyday, evenings during work week and weekends while I do chores. I work full time have, three cats, a small dog, a puppy 3 months old and a cockatiel.

Being a beginner I limit myself to 1 project at a time and being disabled I can't sit & sew or cut ect for long stretches of time, perhaps as I improve I can have a couple of things going at once but for now my pain limits me to how long I can go. Even with medication I still depend on my heating pad for extra relief to the point that I have burn marks or scars just to feel some relief. But believe me I'd rather be sewing

Something tells me that she is probably also the type to tell you how to clean your house, your kitchen, how to discipline your kids/grandkids, etc.

I like variety too. Don't worry about what she says. Probably not one of Bonnie Hunter fans or BOM (block of the month) people follow her advice. BH fans always have at least 2 quilts going on as one is a leader/ender project and obviously BOM people have multiple projects.

Ignore this kind of advice if it doesn't work for you. It is only her opinion.
