I hand quilt. I placed random circles all over the quilt. I used an old CD and the tops of two different sizes of take-out's, you could even use a sandwich plate and dinner plate. I used the frixion pens to mark and when I was finished quilting I just ironed out the markings. It turned out great.

So glad you asked the question. I wasn't sure how to quilt it either. I really liked your replies. Was able to get a lot of helpful information.

I use a decorative stitch running down the center of every row of fabric.

I had success using my friends jelly roll scraps ( all black and white strips ) , left over from her strip quilt . I mixed in some colorful scraps to add interest, and I love the result ~ its random , scrappy and pleasing to look at ~ since it is all scraps , it will need 10 inch borders ( maybe red ! ) to make it a good size lap quilt !
