Default Computer printed quilt labels

I have used printer fabric labels for several quilts and have been pleased with the outcome. NOT TODAY. I just finished a quilt to take to my granddaughter tomorrow and made a printed label. For some reason I didn't sew it onto the back of my quilt when I washed the quilt, but just tossed it in the washer and dryer. The label came out of the dryer about half the size it started and almost all the ink was gone. I am so glad I have a different brand of label fabric and remade it. The second try is perfect! Just glad I didn't sew it on before I laundered it! I think that perhaps the first label fabric was old.

How strange. I wouldn't think that the age of the fabric would be a factor in shrinkage.

That is strange - glad you didn't have to take it off the quilt!

Unhappy

Most of the labels I have made I either heat set or let set for several days to make sure the ink is dry!!! If you printed the label the same day that could be why it washed out!! Just what I have learned!!!

Could the fabric have been pre-starched or otherwise treated? If so, that would interfere with the ability of the ink to set into the fabric, even without heat setting it.
