Default Looking For A Fast Pattern

Ok, we recently split up our 2 girls' bedroom into 2 separate bedrooms. With that change came some added extra wall space and my youngest DD asked me to make her a Hello Kitty wall hanging. I want to fussy cut the Hello Kitties and that leaves me with 2 1/2" blocks so here's the criteria I'm looking for:

~A fast pattern so it can be done by Christmas
~Something that uses a 2 1/2" fussy cut block as a central point.
~Measures somewhere in the 45" square range
~And, finally, I've already considered a DNP but it just doesn't look right but I'm still keeping a nine patch on the back burner as a maybe if I can't find anything else.

What about a modified log cabin- use the Hello Kitty as the center block - then work your way out ?

Or maybe stars with the HK blocks in the middle ... Or since Hello Kitty is from Japan, how about Obento box with the HK squares in some of the centerspots, so they are part of the four square centers of the larger blocks?

I was thinking about the log cabin block but I don't want the Hello Kitty to get lost in a whole lot of fabric.

Maybe you could make a Warm Wishes pattern, only make it all smaller, since it starts with a 6 inch block of focus fabric.?

How about using the Hello Kitty square in the center of a nine patch and alternating it with snowball blocks? I like that pattern with a patch block because if you make the corner triangles on the snowballs the same width as the squares, it makes a secondary pattern. You could do square in a square but you would need a lot more of them to get to the 45 inch size.
