Default Static on cutting mat

I have a small "lazy Susan" Olfa cutting mat that I use for trimming up squares. I love the mat cause I just spin it around to trim up all four sides, then just lift the mat off the rotary base to empty the cuttings into the bin.

My problem is that the cuttings (both paper and fabric) cling to the mat from static.

I've tried washing it with just a damp rag and washing it with a tad of soap.

What can I put on it to get rid of the static, but not harm the mat?

I would try lightly rubbing a fabric softener sheet on both sides.

Or a light spray of Static Guard?

I guess it's just trying to help .... it knows you want those squares to stay put, and is just doing it's job!!

I'm with Lori ^
I would try dryer sheets, if that doesnt work, maybe try a rag with a little fabric softener on it. not much, just a dab.

I'd also use a dryer sheet. Works great on flyaway hair, too! My SIL thought her hair was dry and damaged until I wiped it with a dryer sheet. Calmed her hair right down and she was amazed. Lol.
