Default Anyone use the Alto II cutting system?

I got the Alto before the Go die cut machine or the slotted Shape Pros became available. I have it put away but was wondering if there is a good use for it other then cutting?

A friend of mine had the Alto. I can't imagine any use for it other than what it was designed to do.

I was looking at it on line just a moment ago. It looks like it is limited to how it is designed.

I have one I never mastered--I should sell it and get it out of my way! I tried it a few times and just never felt like I was getting what I needed out of it.

I love mine and can't imagine quilting without it! I have an Accuquilt cutter, but I use it occasionally. I use my Altos every time I sew.

I love mine. I used to volunteer at a local quilt shop. Used it all the time. Especially during Shop Hops....It is precise and easy to use.

I'm also interested in this cutter and have been going back and forth in my mind about getting it or not. I only wish they weren't so expensive. I've asked about it at my LQS's but most there have never heard of it, they always assume I'm talking about the accuquilt. From what I understand one can only use the Alto cutting mats and they aren't of great quality. Those of you who have used this do you find this to be true? Thank you for asking about this.

I have one I've been wanting to sell. It's a great system but just wasn't for me. I ended up with a dedicated cutting table with a large mat and that has worked out better for me. I have not found the mat to be a problem. My unit is the Quilt 4 Kids version and they may have switched to a better mat. I would say mine is about four years old and in great shape.

The mat that came with mine is very good. At a quilt show long ago one of the men in the Martell booth told me Alto used their brand of mats. It is held on with double sided tape. Easy to replace with any mat that is 18" by 24" It's a big board and very heavy so it's best to have a dedicated spot. It will cut strips, squares, and diamonds, shapes the Stripology or Shape Pro rulers do now.

I have one and really like it. I find it to be very accurate. I haven't used it to it's fullest capacity (angles) yet but looking forward to doing that. I got mine from a friend. She used it and loved it for a number of years before passing it on. The mat does not seem to be a problem.
