I've done my share of stupid mistakes.
Get out the ripper and rip it off.
I promise you will never sew it on wrong again :-)

Don't give up. Each one will get better and easier and you will dread it less. I too stitch binding to the front with machine and save the hand stitching until there is a TV program I want to watch. It sort of makes it go easier. Best wishes. N

This afternoon I got up enough courage and got the binding on a small quilt for my youngest daughter. I did this one all by machine. It wasn't horrible but I'm glad it's for a 4 year old who is going to drag it around all day.

I have another lap sized quilt for my mother-in-law. I decided I would try hand stitching the back for this one, to see what method I liked more. I got it all sewn to the front, everything was nice and straight and I was starting to think I didn't really hate binding. And then I realized......I sewed the finished edge of the binding and the raw edge of the quilt together. I'm an idiot.

Is my only option a date with the seam ripper? I am sure I will never finish this quilt now. I am soooo frustrated with the binding and what a stupid mistake I made!!!!!
If we lived a little closer, I'd be over in your sewing room doing your binding and drinking your coffee. I find binding strangely relaxing.

Has she got room for both of us? And enough coffee (and Girl Scout Cookies) for both of us?

I used to dread binding too. Now I use the Binding Tool and it really does make perfect bindings every time.

Hold on...................breathe...................... .......binding is your friend. It means you can cuddle with the quilt (which is almost done) on your lap when you hand sew the back of the binding down. I have found I am NEVER pleased with machine sewing the back of the binding. It looks like a runaway train ran all over the binding. Now..................you can either hand sew what you have while just folding UNDER the raw edge, or, you can cut a slightly wider binding and put it over your binding you have, or, you can whistle and sing a lullaby while you "unsew" the binding. If you do a slightly wider binding, you can even leave a little of the original binding showing so it looks like another stream of color. Use any "mistake" as an adventure in creativity! The trick is to love it, and give that love to the quilt and the person receiving it. We have all been there and might very well be there again. Laugh about it. Hugs to you.

I love Jenny Doan's videos! I have learned so much from them---and I'm still learning.
