I have a wallhanging that my sister gave me. She says that she won it someplace and it did not appeal to her. I love it. I want to document it a bit. Is this a good idea?

Why not? If you intend to keep it in your family, it would be a good idea. At least the story of where it came from.

I bought a very old (1880s) quilt top that I am fixing up...it was in very bad condition when I got it. When it's complete, I'll be quilting and labeling it.

YES! Document what you know so that part at least will not be lost!

I see nothing wrong with documenting it. That way your future generations will know where it came from.

i agree with everyone, label that quilt.

i will put labels on some of my commissioned quilts for the buyer to add what ever info they'd like.

99% of the time the quilts are gifts for their family/friend to mark a special occasion and i've always believed it was important for them to add their personal touch on the back.

I agree, you should label and document it for your family's future generations.
