Can someone explain to me the difference between a Doll Quilt and a Wall Hanging?

    Hi Tink,
I think the only difference is that you would put a hanging sleeve on the wall hanging. Just my opionion...

Wall quilts can actually be quite large, but they're meant to hang on a wall. To me, the difference is in the purpose of the quilt. If you hang a quilt on the wall, it's a wall quilt - if you give it to a little girl for her dollies, then it's a doll quilt.

Dolly quilts are, IMO, smaller versions of a large quilt and wall hangings usually tell a story by themselves. I ususally turn any leftover quilt blocks into dolly quilts or for a baby, they become burp bibs!!

Someone mentioned that wall hangings have a sleeve to hang too and dolly quilts are just like a big quilt but much much smaller...

if you google around: mini quilts are to be no bigger than 24" x 24" with small pieces.

    doll quilt.. just for that.

    wall hanging.. has not rules

I don't think there really are rules if you are not sending your work to be critiqued or in a contest. We all love fabric and just want to sew/quilt.

I sew / quilt small for children's hospital comfort. Not to cover up in, to color their beds, lift the "hospital" aptmosphere.

    Good luck.

I have made doll quilts for the swap here. These will all be hanging on my walls. :D:D:D

I guess it goes to the intent of how the quilt is going to be used. I can hang a bed quilt on my wall, or use a doll quilt for a baby  But then I AM not one to follow rules LOL

i've made wall hangings that are 7.5 feet square - you'll never see a doll quilt that large.

Wall hangings can be any size from minature to large, but I think of doll quilts as small to fit a little doll bed.
