I have been quilting my T shirt quilt one block at a time on my domestic machine (it's far to big to worry about quilting anything larger than that at once). I find that I get in a groove for a minute then panic and don't know which way to go so I want to draw some lines to follow or use as a guide at least. I need something that will mark well on black, white, cream gray, red etc...is there some "magic" all in one marking tool that will do this? Or does anyone have a favorite they would recommend. I have the blue marking pencil which is ok, but is there something better?

I will be watching to see what others say. Currently my favorite is the pen by sewline. It is supposed to disappear in 2 to 10 days but so far its been gone in hours for me. Mine is purple, not sure if it comes in different colors. The pencil does. It is erasable.

I also use the Sewline purple pen. And yes, it's gone in about an hour. I'm wondering if it will last longer in the winter when my house is considerably cooler.

It doesn't show on dark fabrics, so I, too, will be watching this thread to see what people recommend on dark fabrics.

Fons/Porter Mechanical fabric pencil has white lead and is great for dark fabrics-Stays on then can be erased or washed off. I use it for marking for hand stitching and it doesn't rub off the way chalk does. One place it is available is Connecting threads-comes with refills too.

i use a regular mechanical pencil- i have different colored leads for it- but 99% of the time i've found regular lead shows up just fine- even on black. when i want my lines to be heavier than i can achieve with the mechanical pencil i just grab a normal pencil and sharpen it- that gives me a wider line.

I found a Clover white pen that I am using on a dark purple background of a quilt. It's the best thing I've found for dark fabrics. I'm already looking for another one, since the first one if half gone already. This is the first time I was ever happy with a white pen. And the best part?.....it disappears when ironed!!
