I have read that some use sheets as backing on their quilts. My question is what thread count do you use? With the cost of cotton going up I thought this would be a great way to save a little.I love all the quilts you all make and post. This is my favorite site.I look forward to it everyday. Thanks so muck for your help.

To me this is a personal choice.. I LOVE FLANNEL so I use flannel sheets in whatever shade I am feeling for the moment. I have used cotton sheets and once again whatever felt good.

Remember this is my opinion ... you will gets lots here!

To be honest, I dont look at thread count. LOL, I guess I look at price, as I have to be thrifty, and I check the clearence racks. Maybe I have been lucky, havent had a ny problems yet.

I don't look at the thread count either. Check out the thrift shops for sheets. Sometimes you can get a king sheet for $2.00 that's still in great condition.

I use all kinds. But, if I am buying it new from the store, I buy the 200 or 250. I have used flannel sheets and also some vintage and used sheets. Even percale or cotton-poly.

Use what you are comfortable with.

I think you want to stay away from high thread count sheets, as they are harder to both machine quilt and hand quilt. You probably want to pre-shrink sheets also, before using as quilt backing.
