I'm sorry to keep posting threads, but I think I screwed up my sewing machine and I don't know what to do. :(

I was using a 'bridge' to start on so I would mess up my pieces when I sewed on 'em like my MIL showed me. Well I should've known better because this particular bridge was covered in extra threads from where I'd used it so much. I started sewing on it and I think some of the threads got tangled and pulled into the bottom where the bobbin is. The whole thing locked up.

So I opened the bottom part and pulled all the threads I could see out (gently). But I must not have got them all out or something, because when I try to pull the bobbin thread up, nothing happens - the needle thread just gets tangled in the bottom.

When I finally managed to get the bobbin thread up (it winds a bobbin without any problems), I tried sewing again, but it kept pulling the fabric toward the bottom/bobbin and then when I would stop and look at the bottom of the fabric, there'd be this massive tangle of threads.

I'm so lost!! :(

My machine does this sometimes ---- take the bobbin out, if it is plastic look at it carefully for nicks, if it is nicked throw it away. Check to see if your needle is loose or if the thread got twisted around the needle, check to make sure the pressure foot is secure. Try to sew, be sure to use a bridge (a fresh one lol) check the tension. Let us know if any of this helps.

When this happens on my Viking Sapphire I need to take out the bobbin and re-thread the whole of the top thread. I found that the top thread can get jerked out of a particular guide.

I think a bridge means a leader... or whatever you call those little pieces of fabric that you start your sewing on.

Something else you should try, is to totally rethread your machine. Sometimes when it does that, the thread comes out of the looper or the tension disc.

does the place where your bobbin sits in have a couple of little levers that you can push to the side to remove that mechanism? I believe it is called the bobbin race. Lint and threads can get trapped in there so you have to remove the race to clean that area out.

Yeah, a bridge is what pittsburgpam called a leader. I don't know the technical terms, lol.

I'll try rethreading everything and see if that works. Maybe I'll try using a new bobbin too.

Shibori, I don't think it has a removable bobbin race thing-a-ma-jig, but I could be wrong. I'll see if I can figure that out.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions. I'm going to go try them all out. And if that still does work, my DMIL will have to look.
