I bought an inexpensive wooden dining table from IKEA ($60 and was 30"x48"). I traced the outline of my machine's base and cut the space out, sanded the edges so they would be smooth. Mounted a shelf underneath the hole. It was attached to the upper with screws and glue (I made sure it would hold an elephant). Then sat my machine down inside the hole. I then took the clear vinyl sheet material you can find at Joann's or Hancocks and covered the entire table with it, cutting out a space for the machine but leaving it so that a portion would cover the area between the machine and the edge of the hole it sat it. Stapled the plastic under the edge of the table. It worked great. the plastic was super slick so material glided over it. I recently gave it to my mother and we were able to just cut the hole a bit bigger and it fits her machine now. Also table legs were wooden and my mother sits very low when sewing so we just cut a couple of inches off the legs so it would be more confortable for her. In retrospect, if she wanted it higher we could have just gotten some 4x4 block legs (Lowe's trim department) and raised it too.

I just bought the Gidget 2 table by Arrow from Amazon. $180 with free shipping. I've also heard good things about the SewEzi table. I wanted one that could fold up and be put away... I'm living in a relatively small condo these days - so I could "tear down camp" if I ever had a need to use my dining room for something other than sewing.

Yarn or Fabric

I got a nice table desk (okay, I admit I bought 4 of them) at second hand stores. They are ridiculously sturdy and two of them have a pencil drawer in the front which I find super handy For some reason, I'm not able to post pics or else I would.
I have 3 of them set up in my craft room, side by side so I have a wall of tables more or less... the 4th one woudln't fit in my new craft room - I had gotten it to raise up for a cutting table but it was really wobbly when we raised it up and it was too heavy for me to comfortably use bed risers. I heard too many horror stories of those giving way and the legs going through them... so I bought a pair of Ikea Vika Artur trestle legs and a matching table top for my cutting table. It's height adjustable which is super sweet. That might be a good way for you to go as well.. so if you are cutting a lot, you can raise it up and when you are ready to sew, you can lower it down....

If you are looking for a table and are able I would really suggest something that your machine can set down in giving you a flat sewing/quilting surface. If you don't find anything that is to your liking/price range, there are a lot of directions out on the web showing you how you can change existing tables/desks to this set up. If you have someone handy, I would suggest looking and finding one that suits you.

As the saying goes..."been there done that" for years!!! If you have the space buy a table, or deck at a reasonable price and use that. You will be thrilled.

I have 2 of these tables in my studio! I love them. I am a pedal to the metal kind of sewer. They are sturdy and I get no chatter or jumping with them. I am thinking of bying the sewezi table for my featherweight esp when I teach r take classes. As I have a dedicated quilt studio I did not need to hide my sewing or quilting items. Luann in CT

I have two of the Sauder sewing tables. I bought mind from Walmart for $99, shipping free if you have them delivered to the nearest store. I reinforced mine with long finishing nails, just to make sure. Been using them for over a year now and they are doing fine.
