I have a dear friend who made quilts for her grown married daughters last year for Christmas. When she told me she was adding a ruffle to each I thought at first she was kidding. (The daughters had not requested a ruffle.) Good thing we were on the phone and not in person because I could cover my gasp with a cough. I had time to brace myself before seeing them in person. Not my cup of tea at all, but she was just pleased as punch with them. I've never mentioned it since and do not intend to again.

Thanks for all the comments.......I will just take it with a grain of salt and after all, as tellabella said........it was a gift and she can do with it what she wants. I'll just have to keep reminding myself of that.

Guess she does not know how to make a bed skirt! I'd have never even thought of adding a ruffle to the quilt. I wouldn't be disappointed, some people just have bad taste.

So many people have written such wise words! I don't understand a ruffle at all, but to each her own. I just have to comment on the statements about how people just don't understand the work that goes into quilts. I have had people I barely know ask me to make them a quilt. I always struggle with a way to say no that doesn't show just how ridiculous they are for asking. You know something like "Sure, and to repay the favor you can paint my house for me."

I would take it as a compliment.

Sorry, but I find that pretty insensitive and quite frankly, rude on her part. You made her a lovely quilt from your heart. She was wrong to do what she did, plain and simple. If she likes ruffles, she can add them in many places in her room. She didn't need to hurt your feelings by not only adding to your quilt, but then declaring it "finally beautiful". Seriously, this lady needs some lessons in manners, friendship and graciousness, qualities you seem to have in spades! :-D

Maybe she has had trouble in the past with dust ruffles being too long and getting stepped on and then torn. Also a dust ruffle is a pain to first put on the bed if you don't have help. Or maybe she just couldn't find a pre-made one that would match.
She obviously liked your quilt or she would have just put it on a quilt rack and not used it. Just another way to look at things.
