Thanks for the picture. I'll send it on to my daughter.

If you are going to add anything to it, make sure that it does not detract from the quilt itself. IMHO, I would focus on the beauty of the quilt and the wonderful handwork that it involves. Would love to see a picture of the quilt.

If I did anything I would add a small black border to frame all of the great work that she did, then layer, quilt as desired (LOL), and add a floral binding that will look great against the black.

I would try and find vintage fabric to make a small binding and then look for another vintage fabric to do the backing. You are so fortunate to have such a beautiful treasure of a quilt!

Adding pictures. . . first one taken on my cutting board (haven't got a person to hold the quilt at the moment).

I have a picture showing the back of the pieced pieces, but am having trouble getting it posted. Some of the hexagons were made up of 3 smaller pieces!

Pieced pieces!

Jory,
This really is wonderful, you are fortunate to have it. I hope you will follow the example in the photo pittsburgpam sent and keep as true to the original as possible. What a treasure!

Jory how wonderful! When it's finished you might want to consider doing a photo transfer of your GGM's picture on the quilt label. What a tribute to an exceptional needlewoman. Thanks for sharing.........

Google Grandmas Flower Garden quilts and you will see alll kinds of borders and ways that people have finished them off. I am currently finishing GFG for my aunt and she was disappointed that the other i did for her didn't fit her full-size bed. And that is what got me looking for borders.

I found this picture and used vintage 30s reproduction fabrics to make the border.

btw - your quilt is beautiful!!! I would consider solid color for the binding/borders so that it doesn't take away from what she made.

Take time looking - there is a lot out there. I spent several days looking and was amazed at what all i found.
