I'm playing around with another block pattern. I'm down to the last step and things don't fit!

I'm doing this one: http://www.mccallsquilting.com/patte...n=add_favorite

I've done step 3 and step 4....BUT, they're supposed to fit together (as shown in step 5) but step 3's piece is 1" too narrow! Can anyone figure out what's wrong here???

i am at work so can't try it for you but reading it over...is your rectangle 2 1/2" x 4 1/2"? then you add the 2 1/2" squares on the corners and sew on the diagnals...it will finish at 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" and should fit step 5 just fine...if you are an inch short...did you cut your rectangles 3 1/2" instead of 4 1/2"
that's the only thing i can see just looking at the pattern that may be a problem, the pattern sounds correct...
i will check back tomorrow when i'm home and if you still haven't got it to work, i'll try a practice one and see if i can help further.
it's always a bumber when a plan doesn't come together.

Okay -- now THERE's the problem!!! That 4 1/2" rectangle is now 4"!!! HMMMMMMM what DID I do!! :) thanks I'll try that one again!

OKAY! I got it! When I sewed the white square onto the rectangle, I sewed 1/4" in from the line instead of ON the line!! Makes a BIG difference.....at least a 1" difference!!
thanks!!!

The more seams in a blk the more chance it will not fit without exact 1/4 in seams in every seam. When working on a blk like this it will also depend on the weight of the fabrics. Maybe you need a scant 1/4 in seam instead of the 1/4 in.

This is a more thana beginner blk also.

Hope you get it figured out it is a great blk.
