Default If you've been to a Bonnie Hunter workshop...

If you've had the good fortune to have gone to a Bonnie Hunter workshop, do you have any tips to share on preparing to go? I've been on lots of retreats and sew-ins, so am familiar with what my basics are (beyond the sewing stuff, I always take tissues, lotion and Therma-Care heat wraps). What I'm looking for is anything specific you would recommend for one of Bonnie's workshops.

For example - what is a reasonable amount of scraps to be taking? I'm going out of state for this, so can't possibly take everything I own, but I know I need more than a baggie of them...

Maybe it's just that I'm getting so excited I can't think clearly!

I haven't been ... but would think they would give you a Supply List for the workshop.

I'm going to a Collage workshop the end of May with a different Leader ... the list is quite explicit re the scraps and other supplies needed as to what and how much to bring.

I have just have been packing some fabric in ziploc bags. If you zip it almost completely, squeeze the air out and then finish zipping, you will be able to pack a pile more fabric than you thought. Let us know how the workshop is...

Have a great time! What class will you be taking? I've seen online that folks like to share scraps. How about a small clear plastic tote of extras? I'll be seeing her speak in 2 weeks at the Northern Stars Quilt show in Somers. Are you going?

I went to a half day and full day workshop with Bonnie. I had two blocks made the 1/2 day and four blocks made the whole day! LOL It was loads of fun and lots of tips and hints from Bonnie. No one made over four blocks the whole day. Some sewed in their hotel room afterwards. If you can bring items for Show and Tell, Bonnie has that right after lunch on the full workshop days. It was one of the best workshops I've been to.

I took a class from her last year and she was just wonderful. Help me a lot with cutting correctly. She gave a lot of tips and hands on instructions. Bring any questions you might have and there should be a supply list. You can always check out her site at:

I hve the supply list, but am also wondering about the sharing of scraps...

Good to know about the show and tell, I have a couple of quilts from her patterns as well as a flimsy.

A few months ago, there was discussion on a Yahoo group thread about going to one of Bonnie's workshops. I'd been trying to get into ones that were within a 3- or 4- hour drive for a while, without luck. A guild organizer from Delaware mentioned that they still had openings, so I jumped on it.

It's a longer drive, but I am stopping @ DD's in Philadelphia along the way, so it worked out well all around. There are three workshops being done, as well as Bonnie's trunk show. It's not a busy season there, so I got a great deal on a hotel (although the guild contact was kind enough to ask if I'd like to stay in a member's home!) The cost of the workshops is less than some I've paid for @ LQS! The only downer is that I will arrive home on a Wednesday evening, having been in the workshops for 3 days, and will then have to go to work on Thursday and Friday! Those will be the long days, as I will probably be very tired by then, lol. Plus, work when I will want to work on my new projects? Drat.

I can't wait to go... I've never been a "groupie," never cared for the big concerts, etc. But to see Bonnie Hunter, heck yeah!

I never want to look back and regret not doing what I could have done when I was able to do it because I felt it wasn't necessary or practical. Past the age of 50 there is a end in sight how long you have independent time left! I want to take the scenic route to getting old.

Bonnie Hunter will be at the Vermont Quilt Festival at the end of June. Some classes are already full. Looking forward to suggestions about what to pack from PeaceandJoy and others.
