If you've got a fairly modern machine, just check that you haven't got the needle position knocked off centre. It should only take a few pushes of a button to reposition your needle. All the quarter inch feet on my machine only have a hole big enough for a centrally positioned needle as you would use for a straight stitcher and I have to put a special switch on that will stop me trying to use a zig - zag with it and thus busting the needle. Perhaps yours is similar?

I have never heard of a needle shaft breaking; how weird is that?
What kind of machine is it? Can you show us a picture of what happened?

A lot of the shafts are two pieces, held together with a set screw. Maybe the screw came out. Open you machine and check. It's not likely for a metal shaft to just break.

How about Craigslist, Ebay, or a yard sale? Does it have to be new?? Just saying... :)

Oh no. That's like the motor in your car going out when you drive a lot. I hope you can get another soon. I know how much we miss our sewing machines when they're gone. Good luck.

I did it already, I was machine quilting 100 miles an hour backwards on my Pfaff and I ran into a huge safety pin. Timing was off, shaft was bent, it cost $140.00 to fix.

Sorry to hear this. Hope you get it fixed soon and it isn't to much to get it fixed. I would be having withdrawals! Hope all goes well. :)
