Default Inappropriate posts

What's going on? Why are we getting so many inappropriate posts lately? I thought there are filters in place to catch that stuff. I accidentally opened one, does that mean the person who posted it can now get to my profile and send me private messages?

I agree, it has gotten to be a little concerning.

I also agree that I have gotten some inappropriate posts that don't even look like they are quilting related. I don't even open them up but it is scary that they can get into this board. Not sure about the fact that if you open the post your information is available to the person that sent it. I hope not for sure

Just saw another post in the Main forum that looks as if it is another inappropriate post just looking at the heading. Hope it will be deleted soon. I did not open it.

Well, the moderators moved my post about the inappropriate posts to the non-quilting forum, so they are on their toes!

I just opened one for not paying close attention. I hope our moderators can find a way to block these posts. I have been on this board for years and have never seen anything like it.

There is no doubt that being a moderator is a thankless job. Hubby moderates a site dedicated to one of his hobbies and after they began having similar problems they made a few changes. First any new sign up must be approved by two moderators. Sometimes it is easy to spot a problem just by the handle they use. Secondly for the first month being a member every post goes to a moderator for approval before it is released to show up on the public forum. It is a lot of extra work some days but it has pretty much eliminated the problem.

These posters are just changing their names. It makes it rough for the board to keep up with them. I wonder what these
people get out of these posts

They aren't people. They are automated spam bots exploiting a software security weakness.
