Doesn't the new 8900 have a 9mm stitch width whereas the 7700 only has the 7mm?

Yes, it does have the 9 mm width stitch, which makes a lot of difference in some and not so much in others. Mine arrived last week so I'm still playing with it. But so far I like it a lot. And at $2250.00 with free shipping and no tax, it was a great deal. I purchased from Tops Vacuum and Sewing in Sarasota, FL -- where Madriver got hers. The staff is very easy to deal with and don't mind anwering my "dumb" questions.

Do you know if they will ship out of state or not? I'm ready to buy the 8900.

I brought the 8900 2 weeks ago at my local sewing center. I paid $2499.00. I still don't know how to use all the functions on this machine. I think the instruction book could be better to explain about using all the function on this machine. I had a memory craft 9000 before which help me a lot to use this machine. So far I like this machine. I have not done any quilting yet.

I love my Janome 8900. The wide harp area makes it so much easier to quilt. I get good 1/4" seams from the foot and 1/4" needle setting. Stitches are even. A real dream machine. You will find a wide range of prices quoted. The MSRP is around $4400 I believe but I have heard people picking up the machine anywhere between $2500-$3500. This machine is also used on quilt cruises so a lot of the gently used machines are available as well. There are more stitches and feet than I will probably ever use but who knows down the line I may.
