Default Using Retayne with printer ink to make labels?

Has anyone had printer ink that ran? I tried a label with my Canon printer and sprinkled it to see if it ran and it did. So I made another and put it in boiling water with Retayne. That seems to have worked but I am still wondering if it will be ok when I wash the quilt.

I think the only way you can know is to wash your sample and see what happens. Is the Canon an inkjet printer? If so, I'm surprised the ink did not run in the boiling water with Retayne.

I think it depends on what kind of ink the printer uses. I did samples on both of our Canon printers, then washed and dried. One faded, on didn't.

printer ink is not meant to be permanent, so I would not depend on it!

Have you considered using a product such as Bubble Jet Set? You pre-treat the fabric with it, then print on the fabric.

If you iron it, wouldn't that set the ink? Just thinking out loud. Then maybe the retayne treatment.

Are you using untreated fabric, Bubble Jet Set treated fabric, or the packaged treated stuff like Printed Treasures?
Did you heat set your label before you 'sprinkled' it?
Was it the black ink that ran or just the colors?

If you are using a laser printer, heat will work. It does not set inkjet printer inks, though.

I used untreated fabric which I ironed before I sprinkled it. Just the colors ran. I was not aware of Bubble Jet Set and I think I will try that.
Thanks everyone.
