I made my last one on my serger and it was so fast!!! Try that for a change. Its a good gift quilt when you need something fast.

sorry you didn't enjoy this project. We made these at our Project Linus gathering and we had a blast. But, we did take a break here and there so we didn't sit constantly at the machine.

This is a great looking quilt! Love how you added the stars! Gives a strip quilt a lot of interest. I've put this one on my To-Do List.

Here is a picture of one of mine after I pieced the jelly roll portion.

And here it is after I got done with the "extras". I really liked. So much so that I kept if for myself!

I did one a couple of months ago & love it! I love running the sewing machine fast, not measuring, etc. I even wrote a column for our newsletter about it, I also love the finished quilt.
I'll definitely do another & would love to be in an organized race.
But that is why we are so fortunate to have so many choices, methods, etc, if we all just did the same thing there would be no fun.

Sorry you are having such a bad experience with the jelly roll race quilt. I just completed one and loved it. I used the Bali Pop Cappuccino and I am now in the process of appliqueing fall colored leaves on it. Everyone in my sewing crowd loves it and the colors. I am actually getting bored with the appliqueing of the leaves. LOL. Didn't realize how many ins and outs and arounds leaves have until I started zig-zagging them!

A group of us get together for a retreat each year and we try to have a project that we all work on while we are there. Last year we made the Jelly roll race quilts. I am attaching a picture of them laying on the banister at the retreat house.

I've made two in the past couple of weeks. The main criticism I have is that the jelly rolls I used for the second one had too many repetitions of the same fabrics, thus creating too many places where the same fabric was side by side.

I also discovered that I prefer the look of the diagonal joining, even though it is a bit more work. And I also think if I do another one I will cut the strips in half as well. That may help with getting more variety in the piecing.

I enjoyed making the 2 I did for my DD's teachers. But I did take lots of break since I had just had major surgery. It was nice to sew without alot of "work" to it. I plan to make another one when I find the right jelly roll.
