I use the vacume attachment as well. Also I use the long tweezers that we usually use on a serger. One more thing...I was surprised she didn't remove her black bobbin case and clean under it. lint totally builds up under the bobbin case.

I have never had that much lint build up. I brush mine off with every bobbin change. I would like to know what machine she has. I would have finished up with a vacuum cleaner. I change my needle before I quilt a new quilt, and save it for piecing until it starts making a plucking noise or if it gets bent. If I am home all day I usually sew most of the day.

Ok girls I am crazy. I was watching so close when a big piece of lint came out , I blew on my screen. Geez I guess I was really involved in watching. lol

I use the long tweezers too -- they are great for getting the lint out. I also use pipe cleaners and I ALWAYS clean under the bobbin case. I have never let my machine get that dirty -- I learned at my Mom's knee that if a machine is kept well cleaned and lubricated the machine will last forever.

I have one of those small attachments too that fit onto my regular vacuum specifically for sucking debris out of the sewing machine. Works good for sucking up random lint in the dryer too. Flannel and fleece dump a lot of lint but I generally clean my bobbin area after every project no matter what I'm sewing on. Can't believe she went that long without cleaning it out. I change my needle when it starts talking to me - kind of a thwacking sound, generally means there's a burr or it's become slightly bent or dull. It's a very definite sound.

I agree, also. Also turn the flywheel so the bobbin case holder turns around....the openings in the bottom often show more dust bunnies that I can't see otherwise.
