I am told that from the main thread ( from the skein i mean it is several threads in one but i was told u could take one thread and then seperate it using 2 narrow threads and use it in the stitchery.

Or am i suposed to use a whole"fat one" so 2 speak,lol

I am using DMC embrodery thread.

Anyway i m not doing the stitchery pattern yet but going to hand sew a little "note" saying ;

handmade with love.

As you can guess i havent done this before, i m a totall newbie at most things.
Also i have used a plane white cotton piece to do it on; is that ok?

i m sewing it on light pink flannel(the backing) when i have sewn/embroderied it on.

I would divide the floss and use two strands. and then embroirder whatever you want the label to say: I usually do something like
made with love
by
( Your name)
Especially for
(their name)
and the date July 2009 or whatever you want on it.
Your plan sounds good to me.

I think DMC is 6 ply, meaning 6 threads together. Cut a piece about 18" long, hold it between your thumb and index finger in one hand and gently tug 1 strand at a time with the other hand. It will want to bunch up, just go slowly. Then put the 2 strands you pulled out together and thread them thru the needle. :)

DMC floss is 6 strands together. When directions say to use 2 strands, they mean to separate out 2 of the 6 and use that. I usually cut about 18 inches and then separate the strands. Hope this helps.

Yes, all good advice, you will only need 2 strands. You know, embroidery is like quilting....won't take you long to get passionate about it. Choosing embroidery thread is almost as exciting as buying fabric.

When you cut the floss, one end will flare out when you flick it, one end won't. The end that flares is the end you want to pull from. It will not knot up on you if pulled from that end. Pull from the other end and you will have a tangled mess. :D
