Vicki - I am so glad you asked about Judy Niemeyer and that I came across your topic.
Do any of you have a favorite web site you use that might have a selection of her patterns? Any further recommendations for beginners?

Hey I'm on technique 4 on my quilt and it was a bugger as it is the snowflake part of the lone star and I think it is comming together pretty good now. I had to frog stich a few times, but got it to go right. This piece can be confusing as it doesn't look right when you first start it, but going together pretty good now. Huggies, Fay..... Oh I forgot, The lady at the store I ordered mine from sent me an email yesterday and said the she has a pattern for the exended border on the Glacier star quilt to make it into a queen size bed quilt. I'll have to check it out.

BuzzinBumble, the name of the Judy Neimeyer quilt I did is "Indian Summer." The quilt in my avatar is a modified kaleidascope from a patttern in "Encyclopeida of Classic Quilt Patterns." Thank you and others so much for the nice comments on the Indian Summer quilt.

Love the Judy Neimeyer patterns. The paper piecing makes perfect points possible! I am working on "Christmas Celebrations" tree skirt by Judy now. I am really enjoying it.

I would really like to take a class from one of her certified instructors. I am sure there are a lot of tips to make it easier....it is not that hard but I am sure there are some tricks to the whole process that I could use to help me along. the closest one is about three or four hours away...don't want to travel for monthly classes. It is not that hard so I will just keep going on my own.
My first JN class was not by a certified instructor and she had us all cut it out wrong. Fortunately I figured it out that the cutting instructions that the instructor gave us was the LONG LONG LONG way of doing it so I came home and did it my way. It still took about six to eight hours but the other lady in class spent 36 hours cutting. Glad I figured it out before I started cutting the cloth. 36 hours is a long long time!

by all means, check for "corrections' on her website before starting any of her patterns. It will save you a lot of frustration as her patterns are so intense (is that the right word?) that errors are easily made when the pattern is first drawn up.

Wow ! I'll have to send in a photo of my quilt when I get it done. When I started mine I just started the first technique and did the cutting first as per instruction and then did not do any more cutting on the rest of the technique until I was ready. I'm almost done with the 4rth part and now I'll be doing the sawtooth thing that goes on the lone star part of it . I first thought I was doing it wrong as it did not look right, but it is going together pretty well. Had to take a break and watch my show, Ghost Hunters and then I will get going on it again. Foundation piecing can be tedious, but it is so much fun to see the out look of it all once you get some thing done. Actually this is the first quilt I'm foundation piecing, but got a lot of practice wiht the Mariners compass and the NYB blocks that I had been making. Those will end up in a quilt one of these days too. Can't wait to get this put together so I can post it. Have a great evening, Huggies, Fay
