Hi, I have had my Juki Longarm for a while but haven't done much sewing with it. My first outing was just straight stitching on a quilt that I had a deadline to get finished. Now, I am trying to do some more practicing and adjusting and this machine is doing major skipped stitches. Any ideas? Help!!!

Try using size 90 or 100 topstitch needle and polyester thread. Make sure the needle is pushed all the way up. Adjust the presser foot tension up to the red line.

That's because I'm thinking you've got the the 2200 mini. You've got the longarm! Sorry about that.
You can't use a top-stitch needle in that machine, either.

If the fabric is stretched too tight it will skip stitches. Also, turning the needle slightly to the left or right may help. When the presser foot is in it's lowest position (which is when the needle is in it's lowest position), the space between the foot and the needle plate should only be the width of a business card.

Stitch slowly? Do you have a manual? Check how the machine is threaded.

It tends to skip more when I am trying to do FMQ instead of stitching straight. I keep thinking it might be the tension and I dont quite know how to set it where it works best. There are no numbers on that dial , just a raised line; but I dont know where the midrange point should be. The manual is very skimpy. Just basic info. I think the nearest dealer to me is about 4 hours drive away. Will call them and ask for help.

Sorry for your troubles. Are the skipped stitches on the top or bottom? Are you turning corners/curves?

I don't know your machine but just checked and there are about 7 videos for your machine that may help get it set.

It may be more or less than the default setting for your machine. I was surprised at a class yesterday when the the LQS owner mentioned changing to a setting of 7 instead of the default of 4 on our machines for FMQ.

totally not familiar with your LA machine, but I find lots of support for my Gammill on the Gammill FB page, you might check to see if there is one for the Juki. I'm assuming it has a stitch regulator on it, on my LA, the tech told me that if the needle leaves a hole but the thread doesn't stay in, then it's the tension or the hopping foot height or timing off, etc. If there is not hole, just a big space, then it's to do with the stitch regulator. Hope you get it figured out soon, can be so frustrating!

Thanks to everyone who sent replies. I am about to try some of the suggestions. Just wanted to see what all had been listed as possibilities. Also, wanted to add that I don't have a stitch regulator. I watched several of the videos last night on Youtube. Will try some more to fix the problem. No dealer nearby to take it to either.
