Default Just because?

Do you ever piece a top just because you have fabric you love or a pattern you want to try, even if you don’t have anyone in mind for it? I have two layer cakes that I’m dying to use even though there is no one in mind to give quilts to if I do use them.

I have three I am working on right now! I enjoy being at my leisure while making a top. It allows me to be more creative and productive. I had a set of jelly rolls by moda around called "Hello Betty" for far too long. I just made up a strip heart block to accompany the size and amount needed to make a baby/toddler quilt.

The other one is the wiener dog quilt and pillow. I just had to make it. So dang cute. I used a layer cake to make the dog sweaters.

The last is a bird block quilt I saw on line. A gal from Canada made up the block and pattern. I loved it because I have lots of pieces of fabric that needed to go into a scrap setting. It is coming out so cute!

I say go for it. Much more fun than under the gun and fast and furious quilting.

Most of my quilts are made that way. I prefer to have a stack of completed quilts and let someone choose one they like. I have never had anyone say, I really don't like that style. Sometimes they hint that they would like two, since I am giving them away. LOL. When a non sewer chooses something, they don't always know how it will turn out.

So far, the only quilts I have made are for myself because I liked the fabric and/or the pattern. A quilt takes to much time and effort for me not to love the fabric and pattern.

I'm doing the Eleanor Burns Fun on the Farm BOM simply because Joy the Pig is so cute. No destination in mind for it.

I make all my quilts just because. They will telll me to whom to give them—friends, family, charity—when they are done. But quilting is for enjoyment.

Most of my quilts are either inspired by a pattern or fabric I want to work with.

I guess I'm in the majority. Most of my quilts are made just because I want to make them, not with someone in mind.

I rarely make a quilt with a person to give it to in mind. I don't make a quilt to someone's specifications anyway.
