I just want to interject something here. I have moved ALOT, being a construction brat growing up, so I learned the trick of the trade when it comes to making new friends in a new place. We retired here 14 years ago, never lived anywhere more than 5 years before that.
Go do things. Go to church, quilt club, volunteer at school or the hospital, join a hobby club, go to community meetings, senior citizens, the gun shooting range, fishing, gold panning, whatever. Soon you meet people, then you start interacting with them and soon enough you have new good friends.
But, YOU have to make the effort to get out there. Not many will come to you. Most don't know you are there.
We have friends here now that are closer than family, and lots of them. We are in a small community, so it is harder to find people that we have something in common with, so we developed new interests as well as kept the old ones. I have a quilting afternoon where anyone who is interested comes every Friday, either at my house, or the senior center depending on the week. My husband is a fishing freak, and he met people at the lakes. We go to Bingo at the fire department, joined the volunteer fire department and the auxiliary, not our favorite things, but we met some good friends. Get the idea? Anyone can do it. Yes, even with kids. Volunteer at school, PTA, go to soccer and baseball games, church, have a play day on Saturday at the park, with hot dogs, or whatever... just do it. Soon, you know more people than you want to, and there has to be a friend or two in them.
Enough of the lecture, but if you don't have friends there, you need to do something about it.

Norah, you are sooo right! I grew up in small town America and since I have been married we moved around a lot too. My husband worked a long time in the oilfield before we moved to Raleigh. We have been here 20 yrs and the longer we are here, the less I like the big city! We bought a house 3 years ago in a small town in the mtns of NC and can't wait to move there once I retire. I have come full circle from feeling smothered in a small town to really embracing that way of life, where people care about you and look out for you. I have never experienced that in Raleigh--people , at least in my neighborhood don't mingle--people would just as soon run over you as let you cross the street. Othe people may have had a different experience in this town, so I can't speak for every residence, just personal experience.
But Quilters rock!!!!! Each and everyone of them. A nicer group of people doesn't exist :!:

Well Girls,
I envy the commaradary on this site. That's what I want to be a part of. I have finally decided what to do with the ugly quilt back. I am going to make it reversible. I buy old sheet sets king and queen with the shams if I can get them and make duvets out of them. I am going to take the fitted sheet that matches the colors of the quilt and make a false back. Then I am going to yarn tie it evenly. What do you think. How bout I extend the false backing up over the front to make the binding? Let me know if you think this is do able.

or you could get more thread (matching or complimentary) and make your knotty little anoyances into cute little tassles :D . Might be quicker than applique. As far as this site goes I browse at least once a day almost panicked when I was asked to sign in this morning the newsletter and new material e-mails have always automatically signed me in and I had forgotten my PASSWORD!! Got a new one and I'm cruising now.. Yea one of these days I might actually get some quilting DONE instead of just DROOLING over everyone else's work :lol:

PJ, I like that idea, pretty smart! If the sheet is big enough, there is no reason that you couln't carry it over to the other side for the binding. I like being able to "talk" to sooooo many smart people!

I think having so many talented quilters to bounce ideas off of helps get the old creative juices. I have learned many ways to fix this quilt, and I thank each and every one for their idea. Now it is up to me to FINISH IT!!!
