I don't mind buying specialty rulers for a pattern, the rulers usually save time and make the pattern easier but I won't buy these rulers because they are branded for a cause. I don't want to be reminded of all the sadness every time I use the rulers. I donate to some breast cancer fundraisers but not this way.

Color does make the difference in what a block/quilt looks like. One can make the same quilt pattern in several colors and they look so very different.

I think you all are absolutely right -- I am drawn to the colors and fabrics she has used. That being said, what is the most simple Hunter's Star pattern you have used. I do like the extra triangles she has included.

I have many of Kaye's rulers and love them all. I also have Deb Tucker's rulers. Check out her site for some more great Hunter's star or Lemoyne star patterns and rulers to make them easy.

If you go here, I'll think you'll like what you see and there is the choice of templates or paper piecing.

Looks easily achievable with paper piecing. If you have EQ you could draft your own and print them out.

As far as I'm concerned, that is another designer to boycott. It makes me so mad when they tell you you HAVE to have a certain ruler to make their design. This is why I quit doing anything with the Fons and Porter name on it. I have a couple rulers that are 4"x something a little longer, and a have a 4 1/2" ruler. There are plenty of hunter's star patterns around, I will use a free one, thank you, and make the rulers I have work.

Yes, there is a dandy paper pieced pattern on Quilterscache and the only thing to remember is to reverse the colors on the second half of the block. It makes a gorgeous block.

All Hunter's Stars are pretty, some are more so because of fabric choice, not because of rulers. You don't need a special ruler to make that quilt.
