Default large cutting matts- what's best

Getting an new sewing room and I am looking at investing in a 4x 8 cutting matt and have always used the green olfa lined matts. What is best I need some help with what is good and bad about different brands or if there are any brands to just stay away from. I like the grid on mine-- what about the ones that have seperate grid--good or bad?
thanks for your help.

I have the green Olfa mats I had one 24 x 36 and in a moment of distraction I pressed my iron to it and it buckled. I then got a new 24 x 36, cut off the buckled end of the old mat, and taped them together underneath. Now I have a 57x24 mat which works great.

Kids got me a 24 x36 several years ago. It is Duraheal CB-1. Never heard of it and don’t know where they even got it but it has been a great mat and I have used both sides.

I use the Olfa self healing mat. I have a new one under it for if and when I need a new one.

I just ordered a Martelli mat, it is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I’ll let you know what I think of it.

For that size I would check out the magic cutting mat from Speedwell.

Also, Speedwell will send you free mat samples so you can try them out before you decide.

I absolutely love the new Quilters Select by Alex Anderson. A little pricy, but well worth it.
