Lightbulb Quilt for Mother

I have some free time coming up and I want to make a quilt for my mom. She has had cancer for some time and just found out she also has a brain tumor. I would like to send her some comfort and quilting is the best thing I can come up with. Any suggestions for blocks or patterns?

My mom and I have never been close, not by my choosing, so this is hard for me.

Thanks for all suggestions.

What about a D9 patch, or a rail-fence?

Wagoza, I know how you feel. My Mom and I never did get along and now it's too late. Make something from your heart, you will know what it means if others don't.

I agree, me and my mom were never close either, too much alike I suppose, she got really ill, had lupus rheumatoid arthritis and also a brain tumor. Its also too late for me, but its not to late for you to become close, even if its for a short time, trust me that little time will matter so much to you later, I agree with just making something from your heart, your mom will appreciate the gesture no matter what it is because she loves you even if you don't get along. My mom never got to see my little girl, but when I held her for the first time I finally understood just how much my mom loved me even if she wasn't really good at showing it. Some people just aren't. She will love it even if she doesn't show it because she loves you so much.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I was looking through my patterns last night and decided to do a large lap quilt of Trip Around the World in her favorite color... green. TATW was the first quilt I ever made so I know it won't take long.

My sister has been caring for her so when I have some other projects done I will send her a quilt also. She sure has taken on alot.

All the suggestions above are great. Her favorite color or a hobby she did when she felt better. It will come frome the heart and thats all that matters.
