Is it ok to back a quilt made from 100% cotton with a poly-cotton backing fabric - I have been given about 10 metres!! or would I be creating problems when it comes to washing - any advice welcome

It is your quilt there are no rules, I use poly cotton and cotton together in the same quilt (I make scrappy ones) having said that I do wash everything first so as I do not have a problem with shrinkage etc later.

we back quilts with ... blends, poly's, fleece, minkie, sheets, blankets, corduroy,
as long as the fabrics can be washed together (or have the same care requirements) they can be together if that's what you want.

I'm chairperson for a charity group in our guild and we use whatever is donated, so cottons and poly/cottons get used together a lot. Go for it unless it is going to be in a show then use cotton.

I'd say go for it, it is your quilt, do whatever you want to with it. I quilted my bed quilt for the RV in sections and didn't follow the directions giving in my "how to" book which would have made the job much better looking on the back side, but a much more time consuming projetc. I don't make the bed with the backside of the quilt showing so I did it my way in much less time and it turned out just fine for my use. Not a quilt show contender or course buy I love it in my RV...

I just finished a Tumbling Blocks and I backed it with a sheet I got from Goodwill. I had to cut it down the middle and add some matching material (somewhat) to make it wider. Like others have said, I use the top to show, not the back. Use what feels good.
