I need to make a lap size quilt with a large christmas tree on it, I plan on using a good size border around it, and then appliquieing on ornaments, star, presents under it. Its for a fundraiser but Im having a hard time planning it out....trying to get my measurments all set....
    Any Ideas?

This pattern makes a 12 inch block which might be a bit small for what you are wanting but with a little math you could make it bigger.

Or you could just cut out a tree shape and make the whole thing an applique project.

I vote for the applique idea myself too. Or if you like a pattern take it to the copy shop and have them enlarge it as large as you want. Larger it is the less work for you! I am doing this with two projects for the holidays also. Then I dont have to invent four borders to make the concept work. Much easier.

Are you wanting to piece the tree or make it an applique?

I did one out of squares and half square triangles. I had a pattern but this kind of "tree" could be made easily without one. just make the squares any size you need and add background squares and you're done.

    Try this link

    http://www.hoffmanfabrics.com/conten...asp?FolderID=7

If it doesn't work, go to their site, access the free patterns and scroll down till you see the tree quilt.

This one is a Bargello Christmas Tree by Karen Montgomery for Timeless Treasures. http://www.candysfabricshop.com/projects/Tree.pdf It used to be free on the TT website, but it's no longer there so I went looking for it for you.
