I bought a used Bailey 13 yesterday and I'm having trouble with the thread. I'm not sure the bobbins are even right. They gave me some disposable ones. And I tried using bobbins from my Janome, but keep getting wads of thread on the under side. I'm going to call the company on Monday, they weren't open today. I wanted to spend the weekend playing with it, but having thread issues.

a saw a post from superior threads that stated that thread issues may actually be needle issues. make sure your needle is large enough. i use a jeans needle or a 100 in my juki. i always used disposable bobbins.

I think I've resolved the thread issue, The upper thread was getting caught on something. The machine and the booklet do not look the same, so I was threading it through an area that it was not supposed to go through, and also the tension was off. I need to talk to someone from the company to see how it is supposed to look where the thread comes down, it seems like something is missing, or maybe it's just that there is a different foot on it. I'm hoping they have a more detailed book that I can buy, and the right bobbins, and advice on where to attach a pointer.

are the disposable bobbins just a tiny core, with no top or bottom? Does one size fit all, or are there different sizes?

There is a yahoo group for Bailey owners you might want to join. Lots of good information there about the machines and how they work - many photos, too.

mine came with cardboard sides. i've heard that some folks take off one side and some take off both sides.

I've been trying all day to get on that group and it just takes me in circles It tells me to register, then tells me to sign in , I sign in and then it tells me to register again. So I register again then it tells me to sign in with my FB account then asks for my FB user name and password, then tells me I need to register.

It's the yahoo baileyquiltingmachine group. There is also a bailey proboard, but I prefer the original yahoo group. I've never been asked for FB logins for a yahoo group. I would register and in a day or so get an email saying I was in. Sorry you are having difficulties.

Well therein lies the problem. I didn't realize that I would need to wait a few days for approval. I thought once I joined, I'd be in. thanks for that info. In a few days, I can call the company, I was hoping for some answers now. ;-)

go to u-tube just put in bailey long arm quilting tutorials there about 5 telling you about the machines. chuck says to use size 15 bobbin. I have a 17e, but don't have ir set up yet but have just been watching the u tube and looking all over the computer for information. good luck and lets us know how your doing.
