Someone posted a pattern with a template a while back. it was real easy. i thought i bookmarked it but can't find it. It was much easier than the traditional mariner's compass. Does anyone remember where it is on the board?
Thanks in advance.

There are huge numbers of MC patterns, of which I have done a lot. Currently, I am doing a NY beauty quilt. This group of patterns mainly consist of peaks and valleys, not multiple layers of pieces, so they are much simpler to do, so I would suggest them for your first MC type quilt. In fact, they seem to be an ideal entry into paper piecing. I can't send you my patterns, as I know they are under copyright through Quilt Pro. They have a stand alone MC program which includes NY beauty. I would strongly recommend going at this through paper piecing.
I made a simple (as compasses go) template quilt, beginning the old fashioned way with folded paper. There are several versions of large scale drawing compasses which can also be used for this purpose.
I am also attaching a simple star I designed and a Dresden plate. I don't have pix of the NY beauties yet.
Good luck. these are highly addictive.

As standard compasses go, this is about as easy as they come. My first MC was really wonky, as my skills were not there yet. A friend who was dying of cancer complained to me that his wife had never made him a compass. My DH and I had decided that immediate was more important in that case than accuracy, so he got it 3 days later. This one took a bit more time.
Like all traditional compasses, this one has points at equal intervals. There are 2 different subunits here. Some compasses have one or much larger numbers.

Notice the 2 units in this compass.

Thanks for checking behind me. It is not paper pieced. As I recall you use a special ruler or template. I really want to buy that pattern. Will the person who posted it repost or PM me. Thanks.

I just purchased this pattern. It comes with the wedge and insert tool. From what I remember, I saw someone say this was supposed to be easy. But I can't tell you for sure since I haven't made it yet. But check our the site and see if this is what you are looking for. They have a lot of different but similiar patters.
