I have seen lots on here talk about the Brother from Walmart, but I personally have not used it. I really like my Bernina, but you cannot take care of servicing it yourself, have to take it to a dealer everyyear for service, ect. That could be a real pain when you are living on an island.

When are you expecting to head home? I know you are missing your kiddies.

If your not opposed to used, is there a dealer on the island that does trade ins? Good luck!

For learning, the cheapest machine is a Brother from Walmart. Now, be careful. There is not much "learning" to do. The machine does all the work and you just change the thread and watch it do all the work, so you outgrow it very quick and find yourself wishing you had gotten something bigger very quickly. The cheapest ones can only do designs smaller than 4 x 4 and there are so many designs available that are bigger than that! That is, if I read your post correctly and what you want is an embroidery machine.
