that QAYG (quilt as you go) requires hand sewing?!! ... :( .... Arrrrggghhhh!! I took a class on Saturday and, aghast, find out that it requires hand sewing! Betrayed, that's how I feel!! BETRAYED!!! :? :? ..(We need a symbol for "tongue in cheek" kidding.)

:| I thought I would be learning a new technique that would save time. Guess it does, to a point. But, hand sewing? They tell me to do it while watching tv. Nooooooo, that's my time for yarn work, computer games, etc. Ugh.

Okay, vent over. I feel better now that I've warned everyone. Spread the word. I'm relying on you! ;)

LOL! I do as little hand stitching as possible! But do have a tremendous respect for those of you who do beautiful hand quilting and the patience to do hand sewing.

The QAYG workshop I took last spring does NOT require hand quilting! Sew the seams so they face the top, then machine stitch strips of ribbon, bias tape, extra-large ric-rac, etc. over the tops of the seams.

There may be more then one method - look to see if you can find one that can be done by machine . I make rag quilts and they are basically QAYG and done by machine

I saw a demo of "Fun and Done" another way to do QAYG and there is no hand work. I didn't look up any sites but I'm sure there are demos here on the Board or by searching for Fun and Done on the internet.

There is at least one QAYG method that does it all by machine. It isn't as pretty (IMHO) but doable.

I HATE handwork. I refuse to hand bind my quilts as well. I'm all about using the machine...I mean I it cost a lot of money, I might as well get the use out of it. :)

We had a class on QAYG and they used bias tape as well to connect all the pieces. It looked really easy. You might be able to find another method.
